How to clean a feather duster
A dirty duster just redistributes dust instead of removing it.
After every usetake your duster outside and shake it vigorously to remove excess dust.
Also, avoid using hot water or strong chemicals, which can damage delicate feathers.
Heres how to keep your duster fresh all year round.
Step 1)
Fill a sink or bucket with warm waterand afew drops of dish soap.
Soak the duster for at least one minute.Thenswish it back and forth in the soapy waterto remove trapped dirt.
Step 2)
Rinse thoroughlywith clean water beforegently squeezing out excess water.Next,shake to remove moisture.
Step 3)
Let it air drycompletely, thenfluff the feathers with your hands.
Now your clean, bacteria-free feather duster is free to use.
Clean it properly after each use.
Always store your mop hanging up, so it doesnt pick up dirt from the floor.
For machine-washable mop heads
First,look to see if your mop head is removable and machine-washable.
Wash on agentle cycleat thehottest temperaturewith detergent.
Then simply let itair-dry in direct sunlightto kill bacteria.
Mixequal partscool water and bleachin a bucket, thensoak the mop headfor15 minutesin the solution.
Once soaked,rinse thoroughlywith clean water,ring out excess waterandhang it up to dry.
Next,wipe down the handle with disinfectantandrinse the bristles throughlywith clean water.
And lastly,hang the broom bristle-side upto air dry.
Storing damp cleaning toolsencourages mold and bacteria growth.Replace worn-out tools.
No amount of cleaning can save a mop or duster past its prime.
