Galaxy Unpackeddelivered new phones, Galaxy AI updates and even a surprise or two.
The focus of the event was theGalaxy S25series, with three new models comprising Samsung’s 2025 flagship lineup.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra leads the charge, along with a standard S25 and S25 Plus.

All three models retain the same starting prices as their Galaxy S24 predecessors, with pre-orders underway now.
The phones go on sale February 7.
There were some hardware surprises, though.
Here’s everything Samsung announced during Galaxy Unpacked today (January 22).

And it won’t obligate you to buy anything if you ultimately decide to take a pass.
In addition, you’ll be eligible for a $300 instant credit when you do pre-order.
it’s possible for you to save up to another $900 by trading in your current phone.
So that’s up to $1,250 in potential savings.
you gotta register before Unpacked on January 22 to take advantage of this offer.
So maybe strike the Galaxy S25 Slim off your bingo card for Wednesday’s Unpacked.
Both devices launched ahead of the new Galaxy S flagships and both offer Snapdragon 8 Elite silicon.
Graphics numbers for the new Qualcomm chip also set a new standard.
That may preclude older flagships from picking up features the way they did last year.
On the positive side for Samsung, last year’s premiumGalaxy S24 Ultraas one of thebest camera phoneswe tested.
But it also lagged behind the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pixel 9 Pro XL in our head-to-head tests.
At the same time, other phone makers are raising their game.
Clearly, the S25 Ultra is going to need to step up its camera game.
Most of the specs below come courtesy of a report earlier this month atAndroid Headlines.
Not all of these specs may materialize.
For another, Samsung has already confirmed that the headset will go on sale at some point in 2025.
Samsung has promised “state-of-the-art displays, Passthrough capabilities and natural multi-modal input” with Project Moohan.
We’ll see this Wednesday if it’s ready to supply more insight into what all that means.
Galaxy S25 Ultra: Will it look different?
For starters, the corners on the new phone look much more rounded.
For another, the bezel around the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s screen is a little bit thinner.
Early pricing rumors have us bracing for an increase.
The screenshot shows across-the-board price hikes for all three expected models, ranging from 60 to 100, roughly.
But the writing on the wall seems to suggest a price increase for this year’s lineup.
We hope that’s one rumor that doesn’t pan out.
Time for a charging change?
To make a long story short,Samsung is pledging to support the updated standard for wireless charging.
The exceptional Qi2 growth story will continue in 2025, Samsung said in a statement.
you might expect to see Android devices supporting Qi2 from Samsung Galaxy devices in 2025.
So that would seem to make Qi2 wireless charging a lock for the Galaxy S25.
So what does that mean?
Thats the short answer, though for a longer one, check out ourguide on Qi2 wireless charging.
All about the zoom
The Galaxy S24 Ultra offers a 5x zoom.
The Galaxy S24 Plus does not.
Which is why John thinks a better zoom lens really needs to happen with this years Plus option.
And weve put all theGalaxy S25 display rumorsin one place.
Time for a Galaxy Ring sequel?
Sure we could see a lot of things.
But probably not a new ring.
The timing of that announcement would seem to make any kind of sneak peek unlikely.
But two videos offer some insight into what we can expect to see on Wednesday.
Thefirst video is a leaked one from Evan Blassthat shows a couple different AI-powered tools.
This is part of a push by phone makers to make assistants more context-aware.
It will be interesting to see if Samsung will be one of the first to pull that off.
The last couple of months have given us a good picture on what to expect with the flagship model.
Our own global editor-in-chief, Mark Spoonauer, details all the rumored upgrades for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
No more Mura effect?
There’s been a lot of speculation as to what phone Samsung will announce.
From the sound of it, this feature is acting like similar toGoogle’s Audio Magic Eraser.
However, the marketing material doesn’t go into detail on exactly how it achieves this.
Hopefully Samsung’s take can really deliver the proper results.
The Galaxy S25 Plus definitely needs an upgrade to match its main rivals.
That’s shocking considering how the gap was wider in past years in the OnePlus versus Samsung debate.
This adds more pressure to the Galaxy S25 Ultra to overachieve in those areas.
The bigger test would have to be against the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Unpacked no-shows?
But recent events have us thinking that we won’t see them on Wednesday.
(Image credit: Tom’s Guide / Kate Kozuch)
Will the Galaxy S25 stay compact?
This is not idle speculation.
Avery early Galaxy S25 rumorclaimed the size of the screen might increase on the new model.
(Image credit: Tom’s Guide / Kate Kozuch)
Leaked specs for the S25 modelsuggest that I have nothing to worry about.
If anything, the Galaxy S25 may turn out to be slightly smaller than its predecessor.
This is a pretty big jump in resolution.
(Image credit: Tom’s Guide / Kate Kozuch)
The S24 Ultra featured a 12MP ultrawide with 13mm focal length and a f/2.2 aperture.
So expect brighter and sharper images.
Samsung smart glasses at Unpacked?
There could definitely be one more thing at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, but what could it be?
But how aboutSamsung smart glasses?
Back in late December,Digitimes Asiareported that Samsung would unveil its first pair of smart glasses.
They’re rumored to weigh 50 grams and are being developed in collaboration with Qualcomm and Google.
They’ll feature Gemini on board.
These would be a direct competitor to theRay-Ban Metasmart glasses.
We’ll have to wait and see.
That’s the latest version of Samsung’s phone software built on Android 15.
But BusinessKorea is going one step further: it’s reporting thatProject Moohan will launch at Unpacked.
So that’s maybe not as definitive as the article headline would suggest.
Memory is important a lot of times, but when on-machine AI is involved, it’sreallyimportant.
However, there is some call for optimism based on areport from Korea’s FNNews.
There is a possibility for higher prices should you upgrade the storage, however.
And I’m here in San Jose for Samsung Unpacked.
Apple can’t do that…yet.
What’s up with Qi2 charging on the S25?
The good news is thatSamsung has said itself that it plans to support the Qi2 wireless standard.
The bad news is that you may have tospring for a Qi2-compatible casein order to get this functionality.
But we’ll have to see what Samsung actually announces.
Galaxy S25 Ultra downgrade?
Do you care about the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra?
If the answer is yes, there could be notable downgrade on the way.
It’s not clear why Samsung would make this call, but it could be cost-cutting measure.
I could be describing either the OnePlus 13 or what we expect to see from the Galaxy S25.
How long will they last?
But it should be interesting to see what Samsung has to say about how long its phones can last.
But Samsung looks like it may have the most comprehensive version of this yet.
And the Galaxy S25 is arriving at just the right time.
A stretchable display?!
But Samsung has more imaginative screens to show off elsewhere.
Earlier this month at CES 2025, we sawSamsung’s Stretchable MicroLEDin action.
This is only a concept, but a display that can bend to match the action on-screen.
Ultra and Ultra-er
But what about theGalaxy S25 Ultra vs. Galaxy S24 Ultracomparison?
There are quite a few more changes to look at here, going by the rumors.
Which is why we’ve been looking intently at theGalaxy S25 vs. Pixel 9comparison.
Samsung’s rivals in China, such as OnePlus and Honor, already use this technology to great effect.
New Galaxy or old Galaxy?
There’s 2TB of Google One storage bundled in too.
To fold or not to fold?
But which will be the true no.
1 gear in Samsung’s smartphone portfolio:the Galaxy S25 or the Galaxy Z Fold 6?
The Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra are in plain view with their respective retail packages.
This blue color looks striking and a bit deeper in tone that last year’s color.
Additionally, we get a closer look at their camera lenses, which are surrounded by these concentric circles.
They match the subtle silhouette that we’ve seen in Samsung’s officialteaser invite for Galaxy Unpacked.
But thats not the case with the Galaxy S25 Slim which is still pretty mysterious.
Crucially those renders may have revealed just how thin this phone might be.
Dont expect to see the phone at Galaxy Unpacked, though.
But whether those upgrades will make people want to use Bixby is another thing entirely.
Its not all bad news, though.
A different rumor claims thatSamsung may switch to a Sony camera sensoron both models.
Such as increasing sensor size, and other upgrades that generally get left off official specs sheets.
This pertains to the amount of storage you’ll get with you Galaxy S25 preorder.
From the looks of it,Samsung will be offering a free storage upgradewith a preorder.
How much more battery life can we expect?
Rumor has it that theGalaxy S25 series wont get any extra battery capacity.
But that lack of extra capacity doesnt necessarily mean we wont see some improvements to the battery life.
This is just one of the many rumored Galaxy AI features we’re eager to find more about.
Now get a sense of the scene leading up to Galaxy Unpacked from this video that Mark Spoonauer captured.
Live look at Samsung Unpacked.
But older models should see One UI 7, too.
Elsewhere, those models ran on an Exynos 2400 chipset.
And according toour Exynos benchmarks, that meant lesser performance for non-Snapdragon S24 models.

Natural conversations
Samsung is touting a more natural interaction with your digital assistant.
This search takes place entirely on-unit.
Gemini Live also promises natural, free-flowing conversations between you and your assistant.
This is an S25-first feature, though you’d expect it will come to other Android phones soon enough.
Gemini Advanced
You’re getting six months of Gemini Advanced for free with your Galaxy S25.
Note that Pixel 9 Pro users got a full year.
It’s described as the engine behind Galaxy AI, thanks to an on-unit NPU.
Samsung is also touting performance and efficiency gains.
As you’d expect, you get 120Hz displays, too.
Samsung is now touting the gaming features on its phones, like a 40% boost to ray-tracing.
The phone maker is working with top game makers to enhance the gaming experience.
A next-gen heat dissipation architecture manages heat to keep game play performance from lagging.
Samsung’s really rattling through the S25 features in case you haven’t gathered.
Battery life
Samsung promises “unparalleled battery life” the best ever on a Samsung phone.
The devices should be thinner, and they’re more durable, too, with new Gorilla Armor 2.
It’s powered by AI, as you might imagine, to recognize objects, people and lighting.
It will adjust skin tone for greater accuracy.
A virtual aperture feature lets you widen and narrow the aperture to change the focus of your photos.
Video hands-on
Samsung’s showing another video?
Well, two can play at that game.

Here’s ourhands-on video with the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
More video improvements
Log Video debuts on the Galaxy S25 series.
you could capture a wider dynamic range for better flexibility during the editing process.
There are HDR improvements to the Galaxy S25’s video capture, too.
An antioxidant guide will measure beta carotene in your body and help with tailored meal plans.
Mindfulness features are coming later in the year, too.

SmartThings
Samsung’s SmartThings connected devices platform is getting a moment in the spotlight.
It sounds like this requires a big buy-in to Samsung’s ecosystem of devices.
Samsung has expanded use of recycled materials in these phones to eight different categories.
Ocean-bound plastics efforts continue, as Samsung is partnering with SeaTrees to work on coral reef restoration.
Pre-orders start today, with the devices going on sale February 7.
One more thing
What’s this, a surprise announcement?
Well, a teaser video of one, with the Galaxy S25 Edge appearing briefly in a post-event video.
We’d guess that it’s coming at some point this year.
As for actual specs, your guess is as good as ours.

Samsung’s Unpacked event is over, but our live blog continues.
Here’s ourGalaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus hands-on review, based on our time with the phones.
The unveiling was merely a teaser but we did get to see a dummy model on the show floor.

No, it’s not theGalaxy S25 Slimas previously rumored.
First look at Project Moohan
Samsung announcedProject Moohan before the end of 2024.
The headset and AR glasses are a collaboration between Samsung, Google and Qualcomm.
Samsung showed off the headset during the Unpacked 2025 event and here’s a first look.
More to come including images and details on the newest mixed reality headset.
However, they teased more than that and our own Jason England glimpsed a peek at Samsung’s future.
As our resident AR glasses expert,he’s pretty excited.

Plus $300 in Samsung credit.
Check out thedeal here.

Instead it was locked away behind some stanchions and queue ropes.
How did the leakers do?
We started seeing leaks of the Galaxy S25 series before the S24 even launched.
Pretty normal in the tipster sphere.
Still, there were leaks up and to the day of Unpacked.
And for the most part, it appears the leakers had Samsung’s number.
Even the Galaxy S25 Edge has long been rumored though it was dubbed S25 Slim before today.
One starts to wonder if leaking is secretly a Samsung marketing idea.
Reviews to come
