The 97th Academy Awards have concluded.
If you missed watching live, it’s possible for you to see the list of winners below.
The 2025 Oscars take place today (Sunday, March 2)Time:7 p.m.
ET / 4 p.m. PT / 12 a.m. GMT (Mon.)
/ 11 a.m. AEDT (Mon.)
Even before Emilia Perez imploded, I never thought it would win; its just too polarizing.
Malcolm- Ill be shocked if Anora doesnt win.
Nevertheless, I expect Anora to be the 97th winner of the top prize in Hollywood.
Best Director nominees and predictions
Kelly- Sean Baker.
He won the DGA and nine of the last 10 DGA winners went on to take the Oscar.
I dont think The Brutalist has that same momentum for Brady Corbet.
Malcolm- Tough to pick from a deserving bunch but the ascendancy of Timothee Chalamet feels unstoppable.
Im looking forward to what Im sure will be an entertaining speech.
Rory- Kieran Culkin is going to win, and its not even a debate.
I think this is one of the two categories where the Academy rewards this years most-nominated movie.
Zoe Saldanas name is already on the golden statue.
Best Original Screenplay nominees and predictions
Kelly- Anora.
It won the WGA, though the guild doesnt always line up with the Oscars.
Best Adapted Screenplay nominees and predictions
Kelly- Nickel Boys won the WGA, but Conclave was ineligible.
The latter is No.
2 for the Best Picture (or maybe more like 1B) so this will be its consolation prize.
Rory- Is it too much to ask for Sing Sing to come from nowhere and scoop this Oscar?
I suspect Conclave gets its flowers in this category.
Malcolm- This was a lock for “Emilia Perez” before that movies Oscars campaign collapsed.
Kneecap not even being nominated is the real crime.
Malcolm- Unfortunately, I havent seen these five films.
But all indications are that Porcelain War will follow up its Sundance Grand Jury Prize with an Oscars statuette.
Malcolms- Going with my heart and picking Dune: Part Two.
But I wont be shocked to see The Brutalist win here.
Im picking Conclave for providing tightly-paced thrills.
Malcolm- I want to pick Anora but Baker hasnt taken a win yet in this category in precursor awards.
So Im going with Conclave, which took home the BAFTA for Best Editing.
Rory- Wicked wins, Wicked deserves to win.
Malcolm- Wicked feels like a smart pick here but Id love to see The Substance win.
Malcolm- Going with El Mal because people I trust think it will be El Mal.
But it should have been Compress / Repress from Challengers.
Rory- This is more a question of which nominee from Emilia Perez wins.
Mi Camino has more Spotify streams than El Mal (1.5m vs 600k) so Im picking the former.
Best Original Score
“The Wild Robot”
Kelly- Justice for Challengers!
In its absence, Daniel Blumbergs memorable score for The Brutalist should prevail.
Best Sound
Kelly- Dune: Part Two should and will win.
Malcolm- This should absolutely be Dune: Part Two and I refuse to consider an alternative.
Best Animated Short
Beautiful Men
In the Shadow of the Cypress
Magic Candies
Wander to Wonder
Yuck!
Kelly- Ive seen none of the shorts, but Yuck!
Malcolm- The shorts are almost impossible to see for non-Academy members.
So based on current projections, Im picking Wander to Wonder and its use of stop-motion animation.
Rory- Im picking Magic Candies purely based on its awesome name alone.
Im going with Incident, which seems very topical.
So thats my pick.
Malcolm- The shorts are almost impossible to see for non-Academy members.
In our breakdowns of each category, weve noted several major snubs.
And unfortunately, this year, that dubious honor went to A Real Pain.
In hindsight, Emilia Perez couldve been left off the list in favor of A Real Pain.
It’s brilliant on its own as an album, but when tied into the movie it’s perfect.
Her performance as the venom-filled and deeply unhappy Pansy made me belly laugh, but also broke my heart.
She was breathtaking and carried the weight of the entire movie on her shoulders.
It takes a deeply skilled actress to pull off such flawless comedy and gut-twisting sadness in one role.
Who should she replace?
I hate to pile on, but Karla Sofia Gascon for Emilia Perez.
But plenty have occurred throughout the Academy Awards 95-year history.
So in true Oscars fashion, Ive put together a list of five nominees for Best Shocking Oscar Moment.
And the nominees are …
And the Oscar goes to …
In a potentially shocking upset, La La Land wins Best Shocking Oscar Moment!
He took to the stage for Hollywood’s biggest nights to get this show on the road.
“It’s the Oscars, let’s do this thing.
You ready to go?”
He said to cheers from the audience.
“We would never do that - we use child labor,” he quipped.
He’s so committed, in fact, that he performed a musical number reiterating that fact.
His acceptance speech proved just as irreverent and hilarious as we thought it would.
you’re able to stream"A Real Pain" on Hulunow.
“Take that Estonia,” he teased.
You canstream “Flow” on Maxnow.
To be fair, his Shiz uniform is fabulous.
And it’s off to a good start, taking home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Let’s see if “Anora” can finish strong when we get to tonight’s biggest award.
At least the Academy gave Kieran Culkin his dues with the Best Supporting Actor win.
‘Conclave’ wins Best Adapted Screenplay
Score one for “Conclave!”
‘Anora’ wins again for Best Editing
Would you look at that?
“I saved this film in the edit,” he joked as he accepted the award.
My grandmother came to this country in 1961," she said.
“I am a proud child of immigrant parents with dreams and dignity.”
All four Best Picture nominees have two Oscars each.
Trailing not far behind are “Conclave” and “The Substance” each with one win.
But which will take home Hollywood’s biggest prize?
Our money’s on “Anora,” but we’ll just have to wait and see.
“Acting is a very fragile profession.
We stan a king.
“Movie theaters, especially independently owned theaters, are struggling,” he continued.
1 pick to win, we’re patting ourselves on the backs right now.
The other nominees for Best Picture didn’t make out too badly either.
How did our Oscars 2025 predictions shape up?
Now that the big shindig’s over, let’s see how our streaming team’s predictions played out.
Hollywood’s A-listers turned out in their droves, and it was another very solid awards show overall.
The only nomination that didn’t convert to a win is Best Supporting Actor for Yura Borisov.
Now that the movie has cleaned up at the Oscars, you might be wonderingwhere to stream “Anora.
“Currently, it’s available on PVOD for rental or purchase at digital retailers likeAmazonandApple TV.
Or you could wait a couple weeks becauseAnora will be available to stream on Hulustarting March 17.
