“Say Nothing” is potentially FX’s next big hit.
So if it’s backing this one, it’s probably good.
So it’s baffling me that FX has decided to release this show using the binge-drop model.
Especially since this isn’t something that FX typically does.
That’s 75% of the top 100 shows.
That’s not a small sample size.
This is why, frankly, moststreaming servicesstill stick to weekly release schedules and eschew the binge-drop model.
However, correlation does not always equal causation.
Just because a show is a weekly drop does not mean it’s a top show or vice versa.
But itdoesmean that will likely talk about it longer.
If you’ve ever heard of the “watercooler effect,” this is what it’s talking about.
And the biggest watercooler effect shows arealwaysweekly releases.
Weirdly, “The Bear” is, again, a rare exception here.
Or, even worse, that it’ll actually be really good and still be largely forgotten.
I’ll readily admit though, that maybe I’m wrong.
For the record, I don’tthinkI’m wrong.
But these studios often know what they’re doing, especially FX and its chairman John Landgraf.
Maybe I’m just biased as someone who writes about the industry.
Though notably, the two editors on the streaming team did not.
