Truly epic bass
Did I mention the bass?
The pursuit of bass is the pastime of the so-called bass head.
They want to reallyfeelthe music.
It also offers Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as Alexa support.
The 12 hours of battery life isn’t epic, but the sound is.
Thats a whole $50 more than theSonosMove 2, $100 more than theBoseSoundLink Max.
I do have a couple of gripes about the speaker though.
Its nothing a decent microfibre cloth and some water cant fix, but it can get unsightly.
Build wise though theres nothing to complain about.
This is a weighty, well-made piece of tech with some great attention to detail.
Its all accessible through the Brane app, which is a bugbear of mine.
Its not the most responsive app, and it does have occasional problems with connection to the speaker.
When it works though, it unlocks some great extras for the Brane X. I couldnt get it to work with Tidal on myGooglePixel 9 Pro Fold though, which was a shame.
Once streaming, you’re free to change some of the speaker’s parameters in the app.
That includes the EQ, with a 5-band equalizer.
Its fine, although it would be nice to have more adjustments for the rest of the frequency range.
Then theres the voice control in the form ofAlexa.
It works well enough and makes the speaker effectively completely hands-free.
I lack the extra speakers needed, but it’s a cool addition.
It would get expensive though, given each speaker is $499.
It works well, and enables the Alexa-powered smart features.
This is a lovely addition, and something were seeing less and less of in Bluetooth and WiFi-connected speakers.
you’re free to select this mode from the Brane app.
There are warm-sounding speakers out there the Sonos Move 2, for example.
There are bassy speakers, like theJBLXtreme.
But there arentanywith an actual subwoofer built in.
Well, not really, but theyve managed something very cool.
Previously, Bluetooth speakers have obeyed whats apparently called Hofmans Iron Law of Audio.
Its loads and loads of fun although there is something to be aware of.
When the RAD is active, and when it’s turned on, it makes a weird noise.
A kind of deliberate-sounding crackle that disappears when music is playing.
Before the music it can be a disconcerting though Did I break it already?
And it reallyworks.Play anything with some sub-bass kick, and youll feel it in your chest.
Play something with some bass, like Chase & StatusDisconnect, and youll immediately notice the effect.
This isnt a delicate experience mind you that bass is about as in your face as it comes.
And its all the better for it.
Then theres the crushingly heavySungazerfrom Deathcore outfit Viscera.
It has to be felt to be believed.
The sub-bass kick is immense, felt in every pore of your being.
Of course not, but it almost entirely outperforms anything else this size.
Neither of those feature a subwoofer though, and that really does count for something.
Its less in your face with its bass, and has more in the way of detail.
Its not HiFi, but it doesnt want to be.
Its expensive, but you more than get what you pay for.
And that is fun something thats lacking from some of the competition.
