It isn’t just Congress that is banning DeepSeek on government devices states are doing it too.

On February 10, New York banned DeepSeek on all state government devices and networks.

Virginia followed on February 11, banning all government agency employees from downloading DeepSeek on government-issued devices.

Oregon’s State Chief Information Officer added DeepSeek to its covered vendors list on February 12.

North Carolina’s Department of Information Technology banned DeepSeek from state devices on February 6.

Why is there so much concern over DeepSeek?

The reason for all this concern stems from investigations into DeepSeek’s data privacy practices.

Personal information collected includes name, email address, date of birth, and telephone numbers.

User and unit IDs are given, enabling you to be tracked across multiple devices and evenkeystrokes are logged.

There is a great deal of concern surrounding DeepSeek and VPNs won’t be much help.

The best form of protection is simply not downloading the app.
